I have experimented with blended learning for the past year. I have planned, implemented, evaluated, and revised a blended learning project around graffiti art and vandalism. I have also coached middle school teachers in planning, implementing, and reflecting on blended learning projects. I thought it would be fun to reflect on my experiences and learning by creating a BL Top 10 List. These are things I think are necessary for planning, implementing, and evaluating blended learning.
10. Technology needs be easy to use and needs work.
9. A system for keeping track of student usernames and passwords will save a lot of time.
8. Teach kids how to troubleshoot challenges.
7. Identify a blended learning model that is best suited for your teaching style.
6. Teach students how to annotate using online tools and how to take notes using a paper and pencil.
5. Integrate a variety of Web2.0 tools.
4. Integrate opportunities for student discussion and peer feedback.
3. Select an LMS as a homebase to organize students’ work, content, and assessments.
2. Integrate text, images, audio, and video.
1. Teach students how to be positive digital citizens.
