INTE 6930 January – “Shifting Gears”

When I began this project, I was hoping the cohort would find ways to use the newly accessible Google tools our district invested in this year.  However, our learning and experiences have taken us in a different direction.  Overall, we are leaning away from Google for the following reasons.

We have used Google Classroom as the LMS for our learning cohort and decided we want content to be more compartmentalized than Classroom allows.  The cohort prefers originally content and assessments in folders like users can do in Schoology.  They don’t like the feed of information in Google Classroom because it feels less organized making it difficult for kids to navigate.

We have also had a lot of problems with students accessing their accounts.  Some students are able to access their accounts.  Other students are not able to access them.  There is also inconsistency around their usernames and passwords.  There isn’t a consistent pattern to either making it difficult to get students their correct username and password.

We prefer Schoology because content can be easily organized and students do not need an email address to create a Schoology account.  The free membership also provides us with all the functions we need to integrate blended learning into our practice.
