My colleagues and I have been meeting on professional development days specified by our district leaders and identified on our district calendar. Unfortunately, November and December have holidays, which means time off. Usually this is something I celebrate but in this case, I was disappointed because my BL cohort did not have a designated time to meet during these months. It was so important to meet in November because we generated a lot of momentum around our learning and I didn’t want to lose it. I conferred with the cohort and we decided we would meet off-campus at Station 26 Brewery to continue our learning and enjoy each others’ company. Initially, everyone agreed the Monday we planned to meet worked for their schedules but ultimately only four out of the eight participants attended. At first, I was a little disappointed half of the group had scheduling conflicts, but then I reconsidered my mindset and felt proud that half of my colleagues took time from their personal lives to continue our work. I think 50% participation on a Monday afternoon/evening was pretty damn good. I was also reminded that quality is more important than quantity. The participants dove into the content around learning management systems and I believe our momentum was maintained and my colleagues and I are making solid progress towards our goal.
